DIGESTIVE DISORDER
Ulcerative Colitis, R.G., Male, age 56
My physician told me that my condition was bad and would require a colostomy. They needed to remove my colon and attach a bag for my bowel elimination for the rest of my life. I was in constant pain and unable to function at my job. Then I went to a talk presented by the Doctors' Speakers Bureau about digestive disorders. The speaker spoke about how health and function were related. He presented information to the group about acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, "natural alternatives" to drugs and surgeries. I admit that I was more than a bit hesitant. I approached Dr. Rapkin after the talk and told him about my problem. He offered me the opportunity to come in for a complimentary consultation and treatment to let me experience the needles for myself. I will tell you that it was one of the most surprising and pleasurable experiences of my life. He told me he would accept me as a patient and did not think I would need surgery if I followed his program, which included acupuncture treatments and taking Chinese herbal formulas.
That was over one year ago. I have all my own organs, functioning pretty well, I might add. I occasionally have mild symptoms that act up under stress. I still take the herbal formulas and continue with the acupuncture sessions weekly. There was a reason I went to the talk that night. I'm sure there was a guiding light over me. I have referred family and friends to the Kindo Integrated Health Center to try acupuncture for their health concerns. The ones that have tried acupuncture are no longer suffering. The ones who haven't have gotten worse. I am grateful that there is an alternative to help me.

PMS, IRREGULAR MENSTRUATION, ANXIETY

I had not had a normal period for years. When I did have a period, it was extremely painful. I was not able to function well at work and my family stayed away from me a few days per month. I was on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications. I also began to take sleeping pills. After the first week of acupuncture, I slept like a baby for the first time in a long time. Six weeks later I no longer required my other medications. For the last four months my periods have been normal. I have never experienced anything like it; I don't even know that they are coming. No cramping and no pain! I do continue my acupuncture treatments and I always will. I couldn't dream for more than this. I thank everyone at the Kindo Integrated Health Center for their education and caring. I would not have known that acupuncture could have made such a difference in my health.

TREATED FOR BACK AND LEG PAIN

I have been treated for back and leg pain for twelve years, often using a walker and always using my cane. My tolerance for standing still or walking without pain was perhaps two to three minutes before I needed to sit for a while to be able to start again. I am a type 2 diabetic and my kidneys are working on 20% efficiency. Because of these three things, besides being 82 years old, I have been very aware of taking care of myself.
I have had sets of cortisone shots, pain pills, and tried a spinal ablation (a deadening of the nerves which cause all the pain). None of these were very effective. The decision was surgery, which scared me. A fried told me of Dr. Rapkin who cured him of severe migraine headaches. I had a conference with Dr. Rapkin, and his quiet confidence impressed me.
The treatments are subtle, and suddenly you realize you are walking further than before and with less pain…my diabetic numbers are much better…and my kidneys are improving, apparently. I will certainly continue…Thank you, Dr. Rapkin!!!

ACID REFLUX

My acid reflux was so bad that I had not slept in my own bed for over one year. I had to sleep in the den in a recliner chair because it was impossible for me to lay flat. Eating or drinking had become difficult. Swallowing was a chore. My doctor wanted me to undergo surgery to stretch my esophagus. Frequent respiratory problems plagued me for well over nine months. I was on numerous antibiotics and other medications including prendisone and steroid inhalers for my asthma. My breathing had become labored. I couldn't even go up or down the stairs in my home. I never wanted to go out with my husband and my children worried about me all the time. I was receiving chemotherapy for cancer and my immune system had plummeted. I had no energy, I couldn't sleep and was in constant pain. One of the nurses recommended The Kindo Integrated Health Center to me. She told me that Dr. Rapkin had helped other people in the same condition as me. I began to receive acupuncture therapy ..., three times a week for six weeks. The difference was truly amazing. The way my body responded was so good that the side effects from my chemo were lessened greatly and I responded much better to it than I had before. DEALING WITH BACK PAIN

I’m 55 years old and have been dealing with back pain for most of my adult life. I have also suffered from knee pain due to an accident requiring numerous knee surgeries in my mid 30’s. The pain made it difficult for me to stand for long periods of time and sometimes challenging to walk. More recently, I’ve been dealing with neck and shoulder pain, all of which became worse following an auto accident in March of 2007.
I saw a variety of physicians for my pain and was always prescribed prescription drugs like anti-inflammatory medications, but not a permanent fix. I also tried numerous over-the-counter remedies such as pain relieving creams, heat patches, and braces, with no substantial benefit.
I really wanted longer lasting relief and if possible, even healing. After coming across the Kindo Integrated Health Center web site, I made an appointment with Dr. Rapkin for a consultation. He decided I was a good candidate for acupuncture therapy, Chinese herbal formulas, and a relaxation CD.
I already find myself to be very pleased with my results. I am standing and walking without pain for longer periods of time. I am also more flexible and feeling relief from the constant burning in my neck and upper back. It’s been four weeks since I’ve used any heat patches, pain relief cream, or braces.

WOMAN WHO HAS A WEIGHT PROBLEM

I am a 58 year old woman who has a weight problem, type 2 diabetes, a very arthritic hip, lower back pain, high blood pressure & cholesterol, allergies and a history of migraine headaches, not to mention on multiple prescriptions. If someone had told me 2 months ago that I should try acupuncture to get relief I would have told them they were NUTS. I have since changed my mind considerably. Dr. Rapkin has a very reassuring, calm demeanor and knows whereof he speaks. The treatment rooms are warm and comfortable with gentle music in the background. It is NOT a painful procedure by any means and the confidence of Dr. Rapkin and Dr. Nickels is very reassuring.
I have been following the dietary advice and am in the process of gently loosing weight, my digestion is improved and my diabetic numbers are lowering. I am actually taking less medication for diabetes than when I started.
My back pain is improving every week and my arthritic hip (which I hadn’t been able to sleep on for two years) is calming so that I can lie on that side again without the sharp pain that I had daily. Needless to say again without the sharp pain that I had daily. Needless to say I am very grateful for Dr. Rapkin’s expertise.
In one session I arrived with a nasty headache. When I mentioned the headache, he said to me, “Take off your sock”…… At the end of the session I left without a headache and without sinus congestion as well.
My sleep pattern has changed also, from waking up 3 to 5 times a night to waking up once or twice. I sleep deeper and more restfully than I have in several years and all of this because of acupuncture. I am still in treatment and enjoying the many improvements already in transition. Thank you Dr. Rapkin and Dr. Nickels, I am sincerely grateful to have found you.
