Body Work -
Along with our other services we offer Asian bodywork: Tui na, Shiatsu, Gua Sha, and Letha Yoga.

Tui na is a bodywork therapy that was developed in China over 2,000 years ago. It works with the energy system in the body known as the meridian system. Like acupuncture, Tui na works with the Qi (chi) energy of the patient to bring a balanced state of health. However unlike acupuncture, no needles are used. The work is done entirely with the practitioner's hands to help increase the beneficial flow of Qi throughout the patient's meridian system. The practitioner of Tui na learns to diagnose the patient by feeling the pulse. The pulse tells the practitioner which meridians may need stimulation and which may need to be subdued in order to bring the patient to a state of balanced health. Today, Tui na is used in hospitals throughout China in conjunction with other forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Tui na practitioners in China are treated with the same respect as doctors of acupuncture and herbology, and often these modalities work hand-in-hand as a holistic approach to patient well-being.

Shiatsu, or acupressure therapy, is a Japanese form of healing massage which refines and encourages the natural flow of energy in the body. When this energy flows freely, we enjoy a state of balance and well-being; when it is obstructed, disease arises. Regular Shiatsu treatments combined with careful eating habits, regular exercise, and awareness can relieve many complaints as well as enhance your overall state of health and vitality. Shiatsu is a technique that can encourage the healing process if practiced with awareness.

Gua Sha is an East Asian medical technique used to remove blood stagnation that blocks the surface tissues impeding organ and immune function. The skin is pressed and released; if the skin remains blanched and slow to fade, it is a sign of blood stagnation in the surface membrane. Oil or lotion is first rubbed onto the surface as a lubricant. then the body is scraped lightly in repeated strokes, pressing with a rounded blunt edge, usually a porcelain spoon. Care is taken to cover and protect moles or raised blemishes from disturbance. A stroke line is pressed until all of the Sha is raised.

Letha yoga is a partner-assisted stretch developed in Burma to prevent or recover joint damage and deterioration. This modality is perfect for people with arthritis, sore muscles, and body pain. Letha yoga accelerates recovery from injuries and maintains good health and well-being.
